Q1. How do I subscribe to the service?

Ans.: Subscribing to the Postpaid Dial Up offering requires you to follow the simple steps mentioned below:
  1. Fill a Facilitation Form agreeing to subscribe to the Postpaid Dial Up service from VSNL and pay for the monthly usage charges.
  2. The important information which is required in the Facilitation Form to activate the Postpaid service are:
  • Credit Card Number
  • Expiry date of the Credit Card
  • Issuing Bank Name
  • Personnel details i.e. Name, phone numbers-Landline and Mobile, Alternate E Mail ID
  • For existing VSNL customers wanting to subscribe to the service, the VSNL User ID is required
  1. The personal details of the form can be filled online on the website www.internet.vsnl.in by the customers. The customers can also call up the VSNL Customer Service desk and get the personal details filled through the executives over the phone.
  1. The preferred date and time for the customers to get the filled up Facilitation Form couriered would be captured at the time of filling the personal details.
  2. The courier representative will carry the Facilitation Form with the personal details filled up at the designated address at the preferred date and time. The customers would be required to fill their Credit Card details on the form, sign it, seal it in an envelope provided along with the form and hand it over to the courier representative.
  3. Once the form is filled and submitted to VSNL, the details are verified and a User ID and Password is created for new customers and a plan migration to Postpaid Dial Up is done for the existing customers.
  4. The new customers would get an intimation of the User IDs and Passwords through E-Mail, SMS and through a Self Check interface on the website. The existing customers would be intimated regarding the migration through E-Mail and they can check the migration details in the My Account section of www.internet.vsnl.in.
  5. On receiving the User ID and Password details, the new customers can get connected using the Microsoft Dialer and then logon to the VSNL website and download the feature rich Tata Indicom Internet Service Dialer.
  6. For the existing customers, the User ID and Password would remain the same after migration and they can start using the Postpaid service instantly after migration.

Q2. How can I fill my Facilitation Form for subscribing to the Postpaid Dial Up Service?

Ans.: You can fill the Facilitation Forms for subscribing to the Postpaid Dial Up service, in the following modes:
  1. Online, on our website www.internet.vsnl.in: Once you fill the relevant fields of personnel details, an order number would be generated for you, which would be displayed on the form. You can specify the date and time for the courier to bring the facilitation form to you.
  2. The Credit Card details would then be required to be filled up by you in the facilitation form, which you can then sign and send back with the courier.
  3. In the near future, the facilitation forms would be available at various customer touch points also. These forms would be along with a Business Reply Envelope, which you can post back or drop it in the drop-boxes, wherever available.
  4. You can simply call our Customer Service helpdesk and get the personal details of the facilitation form filled up over the phone. Our customer service representatives would fill the necessary details and fix up an appointment with you for sending a courier to get the Credit Card details filled up and take your signature on the form.

Q3. In how much time of placing the order can I ask the courier representative to deliver the form?

Ans.: The courier facility would be functional on all days except Sunday and National Holidays. The delivery will be available between 9 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. The courier representative would be able to get the filled up Facilitation Form to your chosen address within 48 Hours in case you are in Bangalore, Bhubaneshwar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Coimbatore, Dehradun, Ernakulam, Gandhinagar, Goa, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Jalandhar, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Patna, Pondicherry, Pune or Vishakapatnam. If you are not in the above cities, it would take 5-7 working days for the form to be delivered to you.

Q4. Is there any portion/section of the Facilitation Form, which I would require to retain while submitting the filled up form to the courier agent/drop box/ mailing the form with the Business Reply Envelope?

Ans.: Yes. There is a counterfoil, which you would need to retain which contains the Facilitation Form number and the instructions to check the User ID and Password on the “Self-Check” Interface (detailed below) for the new customers. Instructions are also mentioned for starting to use the service once you receive the User ID and Password. Kindly retain this counterfoil carefully till the time we communicate the User ID and Password to you.

For existing VSNL customers the counterfoil would serve as a reminder of the Facilitation Form number, since the User ID and password would remain the same as their current Total Internet account.

Q5. How can I follow up on the status of my Facilitation Form with your Customer Service?

Ans.: You can simply call up our Customer Service, and refer your Facilitation Form number to get a status on your order. Our Customer Service would be able to let you know the status of your Facilitation Form.

Q6. How much time would it take for me to get my account activated/migrated to Postpaid Dial Up, once I fill the Facilitation Form?

Ans.: From the time the form is filled and submitted by you, the account would get activated in a minimum of 3 working days to a maximum of 5 working days.

Q7. In what form would the Internet activation details be communicated to me? (Applicable to non-VSNL customers only)

Ans.: We would be generating a User ID and Password for you directly, rather than giving a Serial Number and PIN. This reduces steps for you to register and start using the service.

Q8. If I am an existing VSNL customer, how will I be intimated about the shift of my plan to Postpaid?

Ans.: On shifting the plan to Postpaid, an e-mail would be sent to your VSNL and alternate E-Mail ID confirming the migration and the current account status.

Q9. How will I get to know my User ID and Password after filling the Facilitation Form? (Applicable to non-VSNL customers only)

Ans.: We would be generating the User ID and Password based on the name details provided by you in the Facilitation Form. The details of the User ID and Password would be communicated to you through the following modes:
  1. E-Mail at the alternate E Mail ID provided by you in the form.
  2. SMS at the mobile number provided by you in the form.
  3. Through the Phone at the contact numbers provided by you in the form.
  4. Through a “Self-Check” Interface on our website or offline, where you can check the User ID and Password details yourselves.

Q10. What is the “Self Check” Interface and how does it work? (Applicable to non-VSNL customers only)

Ans.: The “Self Check” interface is a mode of checking the Postpaid User ID and Password, which you carry out on your PC, either if you are connected or not connected to the Internet at that point of time. For accessing these details,
  • When connected to the Internet
    • Visit our website www.internet.vsnl.in
    • You would be prompted on a link to enter the serial number of the Facilitation Form and the first 4 digits of your Credit Card number.
    • On proceeding, you would get to see the User ID and Password generated for you.
  • When not connected to the Internet
    • The counterfoil of the Facilitation Form would have the Instructions to check your User ID and Password while not connected to the Internet. The steps are listed below for your reference:
      • Go to the “Start” menu on your PC: “Start” > “ Settings” > “Control Panel” > “ Network connections” > “Network tasks” > “Create a new connection” > “New network connection wizard” > “Set up account manually” > “Connect using a Dial Up modem”
      • Type “VSNL” in the box for ISP name and click “Next”. In the next interface, type the Tata Indicom Internet access number for your city in the phone number box (172226 is the access numbers in all major cities. You can check your city’s access number mentioned on the counterfoil) and click “Next”. If you are using a direct phone line, prefix 0 or 9 whichever is applicable.
      • In the Internet Account information, enter activate@mail.vsnl.co.in and “activate” in the password and confirm password boxes and click “Next”.
      • Click “Finish” on the “Completing the New Connection Wizard” Interface.
      • A dialer will open up with the User ID and Password and Access number specified by you. Click on “Dial”.
      • Kindly ensure at this stage your Dial Up Modem is connected to the phone line from where you would use your Dial Up account.
      • You will be connected to our Account activation site where you would need to enter Facilitation Form number and the last four digits of your Credit Card number. Click on “Continue” to view your User ID and Password.

Q11. How would I start using the Internet once the User ID and Password are known to me? (Applicable to non-VSNL customers only)

Ans.: If you are already connected to the Internet and have received the User ID and Password through E-Mails, SMS, Phone calls, the Self Check interface, all you need to do is go to http://internet.vsnl.in/downloads/internet_dialer.htm and download the feature-rich Tata Indicom Internet Service Dialer, put in your User ID and password, select your city of presence and connect.

If you are not connected to the Internet, all you need to do is, follow the simple steps mentioned above for creating the Microsoft Dialer, and put the User ID generated for you in the Internet Account Information interface and the Password generated for you in the “Password” and “Confirm Password” boxes, and connect to the Internet. Once you are online, you can visit http://internet.vsnl.in/downloads/internet_dialer.htm and download the feature-rich Tata Indicom Internet Service Dialer for your future usage.

We recommend that you make use of the Tata Indicom Internet Service Dialer, due to its features and for us to communicate critical service related upgrades and information to you.


Q12. Would there be any verification/validation which would be done by VSNL to check the Credit Card details provided by me for subscribing to the service?

Ans.: Yes. Once we receive the filled up Facilitation Form from you, we would be raising a Re. 1 charge to your Credit Card account for verifying the authenticity of the information provided by you in the form. This charge would be credited back in the first month’s usage bill. You would be sent a mailer confirming the debit and any other information post receiving a confirmation from the bank on the authenticity of the Credit Card. In case there is a decline received from the bank due to wrong card number or any other issue, the same would be intimated to you and in case of a genuine decline, the account would be de-activated.

Q13. Once I register, what is the one-stop section for me to view the Account related information, activating value added services, shifting plans and viewing usage details/bill details?

Ans.: Once you register, the My Account section on www.internet.vsnl.in would be one-stop section for viewing account related information, activating value added services, shifting plans and viewing usage details/bill details.

Q14. What are the critical account-related actions to be performed by me once registered for the Postpaid Dial Up service?

Ans.: Following are the critical account-related actions to be performed by you once registered for the Postpaid Dial Up service are:
  • Creation of Secret Question and Answer : This feature would be required for you to Change your User ID and Password and to view your Credit Card details linked to the Internet account. All you need to do is to logon to the My Account section on www.internet.vsnl.in and go the “Create Secret Question and Answer” link and complete the process.
  • Change User ID (Applicable to new customers only) : You have the option of changing the User ID created by us once (since the first access User ID provided to you has been created by us based on the details in the Facilitation Form). All you need to do is to go to the My Account section on www.internet.vsnl.in and go to the “Change User ID” link and complete the process.
  • Change Password : Your password which would be generated by us would be common for Internet access and Net Telephony (which you can activate on the Value Added Services link on the My Account section in www.internet.vsnl.in). You can go to the “Change Password” link on the My Account section and complete the process of changing the current password, and setting different passwords if required for Internet Access and Net Telephony.
  • Update Profile: Your profile details at our backend have been created based on the details filled by you in the Facilitation Form. In the “Update Profile” link in the My Account section, you would be able to view the basic data of your personnel details picked up from the form filled up by you. There would be certain fields which we would require you to fill up for us to serve you better. Hence, this link should definitely be updated by you on registration.
  • Content and Services: Currently for Postpaid Dial Up services, only  Net Telephony, Additional Mail ID's and Additional Mail Space services are available. Other Content services i.e. Trend Micro PC Security, Britannica etc will be introduced soon. To activate Net Telephony or Mail services, kindly logon to your My Account section on www.internet.vsnl.in
  • View Credit Card Details: Since the Credit Card details attached to your Internet account is sensitive information, we have provided a separate section for your reference to view the details. You would need to go to the “View Credit Card details” link in the My Account section on www.internet.vsnl.in and enter your Secret Question and Answer created by you to view the details.
