Q1. Can I logon to the Internet as well as use Net Telephony simultaneously at different locations at the same time? If so, how many such connections are possible?

Ans.: Yes, you can logon to both Internet and Net Telephony at the same time, from different locations. You can have multiple internet access sessions but only one Net Telephony session.

Q2. I have renewed my account a few days back without knowing that I can avail this service too. How can I activate it on my account?

Ans.: You can activate the service by logging into the "My Account" section on the www.internet.vsnl.in website

Q3. Where can I buy a Net telephony account of Tata Indicom from VSNL?

Ans.: Tata Indicom Net Telephony account is bundled as part of your Tata Indicom Total Internet account.

You can buy through any of the following options:
  • Retail Outlets
  • Online Options
    • Citibank Credit Card with HPIN
    • Other Credit Cards
    • Net Banking Accounts
    • ICICI Bank
    • HDFC Bank
    • IDBI Bank
  • Cheque on delivery option
  • Payment by post option
    • ICICI Bank ATMs
    • VSNL Walk-in counters Offices
    • Call the call centre and have the pack home delivered

Q4. Can I call up your customer care centre and purchase a Net Telephony account instantly?

Ans.: Yes, you can call our customer care centre. Your requirement will be noted and the pack will be delivered to your home within 24 hours by our distributor or preferred reseller. Otherwise for instant requirement you can use Citibank Account with HPIN or any of the Net Banking online purchase options. We can also provide you with the telephone number of our distributor and names of certain retail outlets near your house, in case you need the pack urgently.

Q5. I have just changed my Internet password. Has my Net Telephony password changed too?

Ans.: If you have selected the option to change only your Internet password then the Net Telephony password would not have changed. If you have changed the "common" password then the same will be applicable for Net Telephony as well. If you have the IP device option enabled, then your net telephony password would not be changed (refer FAQs on IP Devices for more details)

Q6. Can I ask your customer care centre to assign me different passwords for Net Telephony, Internet & E-mail?

Ans.: You can have different passwords for Internet Access and Net Telephony. Your internet access password and email service password will always be the same.

Q7. Can I simply use my computer speakers and microphone to make PC-to-Phone call?

Ans.: Yes.

Q8. Can I use my Tata Indicom Net Telephony account to send a fax?

Ans.: No.

Q9. Can I use my Tata Indicom Net Telephony account from anywhere in the world?

Ans.: Yes

Q10. If I have a Broadband Internet connection can I use a Tata Indicom Net Telephony?

Ans.: Yes, if the broad band connectivity has a Public IP or a NAT and if your broadband service provider does not block the service. Tata Indicom Net Telephony is also bundled with Tata Indicom Broadband. Please visit www.tataindicombroadband.com for more details.

Q11. If I have any other Dial up Internet connection can I use Tata Indicom Net Telephony?

Ans.: Yes, if the dial up Internet service provider does not block the service.

Q12. Can I call another computer?

Ans.: Not at present. The solution will be launched soon

Q13. Can I use the service at a cyber café?

Ans.: Yes, you can use the service at cyber cafés. The PC at the cyber café should be on a Public IP or a NAT connection to the Internet.

Q14. Can I use the service from my office?

Ans.: Yes, you can use the service from your office.Your PC should have a public IP or a NAT connection to Internet in your office. Firewalls (if any, at your office) need to be open. Please instruct your network administrators to enable these. Soft phone would not work behind a proxy server.
